Respite and Short Term Accommodation (STA)

Short Term Accommodation (STA), including respite, gives participants the opportunity to take a break from their usual routine in a supported environment. STA is not just a change of scenery — it’s an opportunity to reset, learn new skills, and build friendships. Whether you’re trying independence for the first time or giving your informal supports a break, STA provides structure, safety, and fun.

Participants can access stays of up to 28 days a year funded through Core Supports – Assistance with Daily Life. Activities may include group outings, creative workshops, cooking classes, or wellness activities. We make sure STA is tailored to your goals and interests, and our team can help you feel at home while away.

STA can be used for:

  • Overnight stays in supported accommodation

  • Short-term trial of independent living

  • Wellness weekends and small group retreats

  • Social and skills-building camp-style activities

  • Emergency respite for carer burnout or health crises

How this links to the Connect + Thrive Framework: STA gives participants space to recharge, develop confidence, and experience independence. This enables greater connection to personal goals and relationships — a key pathway to thriving.
